How to Balance Faith, Family, and Personal Goals: A Christian Woman’s Guide

24 May 2025 by Paulina Bonsu Donkoh

When you love God like I do, you consciously and constantly ensure that you’re still in tune with him. You do everything possible to balance faith and family as a Christian woman.

Certainly, life can be hard! You know? And I can’t imagine living this difficult, and sometimes unbearable life, without God. It’s like unplugging from your life support. You will die.

That’s mostly how I feel when I don’t spend time with God or when I don’t feel him near me. I feel empty, flat, or lightweight. Do you ever feel that way too when you don’t feel God? I want to hear from you in the comments.

Anyways, I wish I had some tips that will sweep you off your feet and make me look superwoman, or like I have it all figured out, but I don’t.

You know, as Christian women, we wear many hats in life. We are wives, mothers, career women, ministers, and more. The pressure to keep up in every area is real, especially when other women are nailing it on social media.

They show a well-balanced, almost perfect, work and family life. If you don’t take care, you might feel like you can’t balance faith and family as a Christian woman. You just can’t keep up. But with God’s grace and intentional planning, balance is possible.

It hasn’t been easy managing business, taking care of the home, baby, husband, myself, and pursuing a postgraduate degree. I sometimes find myself sleeping when reading the Bible. I barely pray.

There are seasons when I fall into a spiritual dry season because I’m wrapped up in a lot of activities. But in all, I have earnestly sought ways to put God first in my daily life.

So, if you are like me and you’re looking for some tips on faith and purpose;

here’s how to navigate faith, family, and personal goals without burnout.

How to Stay Spiritually Aligned as a Christian Woman

I sat down one day and said to myself,

“Paulina, you have been asleep for a long time. Your spirit is dormant, and your soul needs a raise. Girlll, it’s time to wake up! It’s time to align your thoughts, emotions, actions and intentions with a sense of purpose.”

“You have to be intentional about your faith, spirituality, and life goals. Get it all together! You can balance faith and family as a Christian woman. Stay alert, balance your life goals, and prioritize your spiritual life.”

“Wake up! Make time for God before the world demands your attention.” Mind you, this was the time I felt drifting away from God.

Being spiritually aligned means you’ve got to be intentional and purposeful about your spiritual life. You need to set a time to indulge in prayer, read the word of God, meditate on his word, and intercede in prayer for yourself, loved ones, and the world.

As Christians, we can be selfish sometimes. Always praying for ourselves and not the rest of the world. We need to break that habit and extend our prayer request lists. Let’s pray for the nation, governing system, pregnant women, pastors, churches, orphans, etc.

Here are the tools to use in order to align yourself spiritually.

  • Use devotionals, prayer walks, or Bible listening apps. Whenever I’m busily doing housework, I open my Bible App and listen to it play. There’s a school park near where I live. Sometimes, I take prayer walks in the park in the evening.
  • Ask God for daily wisdom and strength. We are human. There’s no way we can grow spiritually without seeking strength from God. If we can do that on our own, then we wouldn’t need God. But we do need Him. I always ask for strength to strive forward and His wisdom to guide my actions so that I do not wander in my ways.

Balancing Faith Through Different Seasons of Motherhood

Each phase of life demands something different.

  • A mom with a newborn won’t have the same bandwidth as a mom with teens. Before I got pregnant, I used to pray for hours at dawn, in the morning, and evening. When I got pregnant, I could barely spend 10 minutes in prayer because I had a tough first-trimester experience. After giving birth, I realized pregnancy had actually been easier compared to postpartum. Postpartum is a difficult season.
  • Be kind to yourself. God’s grace is sufficient for every season. I learned to appreciate the grace of God in every season of my life. I haven’t been able to pray for 2 hours non-stop after birth like I used to. But I do pray in my heart and mind, and spend some minutes for my quiet time in the morning and evening, or whenever I get the chance. God’s grace abound for me.

Create a Simple Weekly Routine

Planning reduces chaos and creates room for peace. I have a calender that I use to plan my activties for a month. On the calendar, I make sure that I never miss my quiet time in the morning and evening, each day. I find it quiet easier to balance faith and family as a Christian woman if I;

  • Schedule time blocks for prayer, work, chores, and family.
  • Don’t forget self-care—it’s not selfish, it’s stewardship. Self-care for me almost always seems impossible sometimes, but I go easy on my chores and work so that I can prioritise my health.

What’s one thing you do to stay close to God?

Let God Lead Your Personal and Family Goals

Our dreams matter to God.

The Bible says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”- Proverbs 16:3

When God leads or takes control of your life, everything works for your good. Sometimes, it’s difficult to trust God to lead because things don’t go as we would want them to. Nonetheless, we must learn, as Christian mothers, wives, and entrepreneurs, to

  • Submit our plans in prayer.
  • Be open to His redirection because it often leads to better outcomes.

Build Your Tribe

We’re not meant to do it all alone. I know that we’re always invested in doing things on our own. And, I believe we do this to feel like we’re the best mothers or wives. Sometimes, you just have to ask for help when you need it.

  • Join a church group or online Christian community like Proverbs 31 Ministries for support. Learn more from other women who have been through it before. Learn how they balance faith and family as Christian women. Pray together with them. My mom, big sister, and I always meet on Fridays to pray. It has helped me build my spiritual life.
  • Lean on family and ask for help when needed. Whenever I’m extremely tired and would want to rest for a bit, I hand the baby over to my husband to take care of him. Then I go to bed very early. Oh, the energy I get whenever I wake up the next morning. Ha!

Redefine Balance as Surrender

My dear, balance isn’t about doing everything equally. You can’t! it’s about doing what matters most with God’s help.

The truth about how to Balance Faith and Family as a Christian Woman

You were never meant to do it all, all the time. There are days that you’ll be able to spend more time with God, and there are other days that life sets in and you’re struggling to keep up with yourself and God.

In all seasons, learn to invite God into the center of your day, be present with your family, and trust Him with your goals.

Most importantly, try harder to get back unto the surface of the water when you’re sinking deep at the bottom of the ocean. If you don’t take care, you will drown.

What I’m saying is that always revive your spiritual life you notice, or someone or something, draws your attention to the fact that your spiritual fire is dimming. Rekindle the fire again.

FAQ: Balancing Faith, Family & Personal Goals

How can I maintain my faith when I’m overwhelmed with family duties?

Start with small spiritual habits like prayer in your heart or mind, or listening to Scripture as you work. God honors your heart, not the length of your prayer. Set a convenient time for compulsory quiet time.

Can I still pursue personal dreams while being a devoted mom and wife?

Yes! God placed purpose in you before your baby called you “Mom.” You were made for a purpose and, therefore, are a purposeful being. Invite Him into your goals and walk with faith.
