Marriage and Family: How to Build Stronger Homes God’s Way

8 October 2025 by Paulina Bonsu Donkoh

Marriage and family take work — real work. They require effort, just like opening a tin of tomatoes with a cutter. Having the right tool doesn’t mean it won’t take strength; you still need to apply effort. The same applies to building stronger homes. Your marriage and family need God’s touch, grace, and strength to stand firm.

The enemy is never asleep. He’s always looking for tiny openings in your marriage and family where he can sneak in and establish his presence. Like the demons in the movie ‘Evil’, the devil finds a door through your mindset, your habits, your relationships, or even your home environment. Once he gets that chance, things begin to fall apart one after the other.

First, your spiritual life declines. Then you, your partner, or your children fall sick. Next comes financial struggle, job loss, and finally, mental distress.

The devil is powerful — but only as powerful as you allow him to be. We wrestle not against flesh and blood. If you only focus on what the eyes can see, you’ll never notice when the enemy is at work behind the scenes. That’s why it’s so important to cling to God and build a strong relationship with Him.

The only One more powerful than all forces is God. He alone can protect your home and help you build the kind of marriage and family you desire.

Here’s how you can build a stronger home so the enemy never prevails against it:

Be Intentional About Building Your Marriage and Family

You must be deliberate about strengthening your relationship and home. Intentionality keeps you grounded — it fuels your actions and helps you build spiritual walls around your family.
Seek spiritual knowledge from trusted pastors, Christian books, blogs, and couples who have made it work. That way, you’re putting on your armor and preparing for spiritual battles that may come.

Pray for Your Marriage and Family

Prayer is your greatest weapon. Pray for your partner and children — because if the enemy can’t get you, he’ll try to get to you through them.

  • Pray for your home, your finances, your jobs, and your health.
  • Pray against sickness, disaster, and every form of attack planned against your household.
  • Pray for peace, love, happiness, and long, healthy lives together.

Never underestimate the power of prayer in keeping your family covered.

Work on Your Spiritual Life as a Family

Teach your children the Word of God. Prepare them early for the spiritual battles they’ll face on their own.
If your partner is spiritually weak, support him — pray for him and with him. And if you’re the one feeling spiritually drained, rekindle your fire again.

Be intentional about reading your Bible, praying daily, and spending quiet moments with God. A spiritually connected family is a strong family.

Incorporate God into Your Daily Life

God isn’t only present when you’re on your knees praying — He’s everywhere. He’s the air you breathe and the life inside you. So while cooking, cleaning, jogging, or caring for your family, talk to Him.

  • Whisper: “Thank You, Lord.”
  • Say: “Help me, God.”
  • Smile and say: “I love You, Lord.”
  • Ask: “Teach me Your ways, Lord.”

And especially in times of crisis, call on Him — He will be right there to help.

Building a Marriage and Family is not like finding a treasure

Building your marriage and family is not like finding treasure. You don’t need to solve riddles or mysteries to know how. God has already shown us the way.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Christ is the Word of God — and when you build your home on that Word, you’re building on solid rock. The enemy will never overcome you.

Share this with someone whose life, marriage, or family will be blessed by it. And tell me in the comments — how are you building your home God’s way?
