Black Women Intentional Living: Soft Summer, Strong Faith at Home

10 July 2025 by Paulina Bonsu Donkoh

Something sacred is shifting this summer. A quiet, soul-stirring revolution led by women who are tired of living in survival mode. All around the world, Black women intentional living is on the rise; rooted in faith, led by peace, and grounded in purpose.

Whether you’re in Accra, Atlanta, or Birmingham, this movement is calling us to live slower, softer, and more spiritually. It’s not about perfection. It’s about choosing what truly matters: God, family, mental peace, and emotional healing.

This post is a love letter to every Black woman ready to rest without guilt, breathe without rushing, and live with the kind of intention that honors her soul and her Savior.

Why Black Women Intentional Living Is So Needed Right Now

For generations, Black women have been celebrated for our strength. We carry, we nurture, we build, we fight. But the world often forgets that we’re human too.

  • We get tired.
  • We break down.
  • We crave softness.

That’s why black women intentional living is more than just a lifestyle choice. It’s spiritual resistance. In a culture that glorifies hustle, this movement says, “My peace matters. My faith matters. My healing matters.”

It’s a return to the ancient rhythms our grandmothers knew: praying while stirring soup, humming gospel while sweeping, and honoring God in the quiet corners of everyday life.

5 Ways to Practice Intentional Living This Summer

This season, let your home become your sanctuary. Let your routine reflect your relationship with God. And if you’re in a spiritual dry season, it will awaken your spirit. These five simple habits are designed to help you slow down and breathe again.

1. Start Your Day with Devotion Walks

Instead of reaching for your phone, step outside. Take a 15–20 minute walk and talk to God. Whisper your worries. Meditate on Psalm 23:2–3:
“He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters…”

Nature becomes your prayer room. Your steps become your surrender.

2. Create Sacred Corners in Your Home

You don’t need a huge space, just a small corner that feels like peace. A chair, a Bible, a journal, maybe a candle or soft music. This is where you meet God. This is where you cry, dream, rest, and receive.

This ritual reminds us that black women intentional living is just as much about emotional space as physical space.

3. Make Sunday Family Dinners Sacred Again

Turn off the TV. Light candles. Play CeCe Winans, Nathaniel Bassey, or Maverick City. Let the food nourish your body, and the atmosphere nourish your soul. Before eating, go around and say one thing you’re grateful for. End with a family prayer.

Intentional living starts at the table. Faith lives in the little moments.

4. Unplug Regularly for Spiritual Reset

Choose one day a month, or even just a few hours, to unplug. No social media. No work. Just presence. Journal. Sleep. Read scripture. Take a long bath. Let your soul detox from the noise of the world.

Try praying this during your detox: “Lord, help me to hear You more clearly than the noise around me.”

5. Host Faith & Family Evenings

Choose one evening per week for spiritual bonding. Read a devotional together. Share testimonies. Let your children pray. Talk about how God is moving in your lives. These small gatherings will create strong roots in your family’s faith walk.

Remember: Black women intentional living isn’t always about adding more. It’s about aligning what you already do with what matters most.

Rest Is Not Laziness. It’s Obedience

Rest doesn’t mean giving up. It means giving in to what God always intended for you: peace.
Scripture says in Exodus 33:14, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Rest is a promise. And when we live intentionally, we finally receive it.

There is no spiritual reward for burnout. No gold medal for exhaustion. When we rest, we don’t lose momentum, we gain clarity.
We become better mothers.

  • Better wives.
  • Better sisters.
  • Better servants of God.

Black women intentional living says: “I can be both strong and soft. I can lead with grace and still rest in His presence.”

Practical Ways to Begin Today

Here are 3 simple steps to start your intentional living journey:

  1. Name your need – What part of your life feels rushed, heavy, or chaotic?
  2. Create one daily rhythm – Whether it’s journaling in the morning or worship while cooking, start small.
  3. Make room for God – Not just in prayer, but in your pace. In your decisions. In your silence.

Many women are finding encouragement through resources like Woman Evolve by Sarah Jakes Roberts, which empower Black women to live boldly and intentionally through faith.

From My Heart to Yours

This summer, I’m choosing slow mornings with God over rushed productivity. I’m choosing rest over hustle. Reflection over performance.
I’m choosing to raise my child in a home that values peace, not panic. And I’m learning that every “no” I say to the world is a “yes” to my calling.

Black women intentional living isn’t a trend. It’s a return. A homecoming. A spiritual lifestyle. And it’s yours to claim.
