She Had an Affair — and It Nearly Ended It All

8 August 2025 by Paulina Bonsu Donkoh

Three weeks ago, Mrs. Adjei was enjoying a family vacation in Kumasi with her husband and their two teenage sons. It was supposed to be a special time for them — full of rest, fun, and memories. Surely, she never intended to ruin it with an extramarital affair.

But things didn’t go as expected.

While she was away from her phone, her husband noticed a WhatsApp notification that read:
“I love you babe. Wish you could leave him for me.”

The message pierced Mr. Adjei’s heart. The heart ache made him unstable, pushing him two steps backwards.

Shocked, heartbroken, and angry, he confronted his wife immediately, Mrs. Adjei, who was looking at her husband from the bedside.

The Confession Of The Affair

Mr. Adjei showed his wife the message and demanded for an answer. Knowing she’d been caught, Mrs. Adjei could no longer hide. With shame gripping her heart, she looked at her husband and said:

“It was never my intention to hurt you. It just happened. I didn’t mean to do it. It just happened anyway.”

She searched her husband’s face, waiting for a reaction, hoping he would ask her a question- anything that would guide her on what to say next. But he remained silent. The disappointment on his face made her heart ache even more.

Desperate to salvage what little dignity she had left as a wife, she decided to tell the truth. With tears running down her cheeks, she confessed:

“I thought you were cheating when I saw the message on your phone from your friend Janet. She said she had a good time with you.
I was hurt. I didn’t know what to make of it. You and I both know you’re not exactly innocent. You cheated on me when we were courting. So when I saw that message, I thought you were doing it again.
I’m sorry. I did what I did because I wanted to feel loved and appreciated — and he gave me exactly that in the moment. But afterward, I was ashamed and angry with myself. I knew I had sinned against God and betrayed my family. I ended it. I blocked his number. But he found another way to message me.
I promise, it’s over.”

Mr. Adjei stood up and replied:

“It’s over? I wasn’t cheating! And I’ve never cheated on you since we got married! You could have just asked me about the message. Janet sent it to me by mistake, it was meant for her boyfriend.
I hope you understand when I say… this marriage is over too.”

After saying that, he picked up a few clothes, took their sons, and left the hotel.

The Aftermath Of the Affair

For a week, Mrs. Adjei was a mess. She couldn’t reach her husband. Eventually, she heard from her mother in Bekwai that Mr. Adjei had dropped off the boys there to continue their vacation.

When she called her mother, Mrs. Adjei broke down in tears and confessed everything- her suspicions, the affair, and the pain she had caused.

Her mother, a woman of deep faith, was heartbroken. She couldn’t believe her ears, but she didn’t judge her. Instead, she told her daughter to fast and pray to God to save her marriage.

To Mrs. Adjei, the idea of praying didn’t feel right.
Why should she pray after making such a mess? She felt too dirty, too guilty to even kneel before God- especially after realizing that her husband hadn’t cheated on her at all.

But her mother kept reminding her: God’s love is unconditional, and His power knows no bounds.

So they began to pray and fast together. They fasted for two full weeks.

The Comeback

Exactly two weeks and two days after the incident in Kumasi, something unexpected happened.

Mrs. Adjei had moved in with her mother to recover from the emotional pain. Around 4 PM, on one Tuesday afternoon, she heard a knock at the door. It was raining. Her heart skipped as she wondered who it could be.

Surprisingly, It was her husband.

He had driven through the rain to see her.

“I won’t forget that day,” she said.

“He sat with me and my mom and said he still loved me.”

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“He said he had spent time thinking, talking to people, and praying. And he had made a final decision — a decision that’s right for us.
He said, ‘I understand now that you hadn’t fully healed from the pain I caused you before. And if you were able to forgive me then and still marry me, I don’t see why I can’t do the same for you now.’
He said he was willing to start over — but only if we renewed our vows and truly let go of the past.”

She cried again, but this time, with joy.

“God truly exists. He came through for me. I didn’t think it was possible, but He did it. He saved my marriage.
Right now, we’re preparing to renew our vows. The love between us is deeper than ever. There is truly nothing that God cannot do.”

Faith in the Fire

With joy in her heart, Mrs. Adjei declared:

“Blessed is she who puts her trust in the Lord.
No matter what you’re facing in life – heartbreak, betrayal, or guilt — take it to the Lord in prayer.
Nothing is too difficult for God.”

Reflective Takeaway

  • Forgiveness doesn’t erase pain — it heals it.
  • Prayer isn’t a last resort. It’s the lifeline.
  • God’s grace is greater than our greatest sin
