“Yes, I put God to the test.” It wasn’t out of arrogance. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So, she poured out her heart to God.
She’s calm, eloquent, confident, and kind. To the outside world, it seems she has figured it all out, life is GOOD. But beneath that grace, her world was turning upside down. Her faith was being tested, and her desires felt like ashes. Chaos had extended its creepy fingers into her peace. But NO! She wasn’t going down without a fight. So, she did what many might never dare. She put God to the test.
Have You Ever Put God to the Test?
Have you ever felt compelled to challenge God to act on your behalf? Or maybe you’ve been afraid, just like me- afraid of attracting His wrath or asking for something you’d later regret. We’re all created equal in His image, yet He relates to us differently.
God rejected Saul as King, but He called David “a man after my heart.”
Abraham heard God’s voice, and Moses spoke to Him ‘face to face.’
And like the great biblical figures who once challenged God in faith, Hezekiah asked for more years to live, and God extended his life. Hannah vowed to dedicate her son to God if only He would give her one. Jabez cried out to God to free him from pain. And God answered all their requests.
There are those close to God, and there are others who dare to command His mighty hand. Comfort is one of them.
Meet Comfort: A Woman of Faith and Bold Declarations

Meet Owurayere (Mrs.) Comfort Bonsu Oduro, an accomplished lecturer. At first glance, she exudes grace and favor. But dig deeper, and you’ll discover a journey marked by pressure, waiting, and faith-tested perseverance.
As the firstborn female in her family, the expectation to marry early and give birth weighed heavily on her shoulders. At first, she shrugged it off. Till time and age oozed a sense of urgency in her heart.
“Sometimes you’d think it won’t affect you in any way, but who are you kidding? You’ll feel it. Some part of it will get to you. You will feel the impact. And that’s when you’ll begin to question God.”
Setting the Terms with God: Her Marriage Deadline
Still, as the wise king, Solomon, said in Ecclesiastes 3:1–11, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
Comfort’s turning point came when she decided to do something radical—she put God to the test.
“A moment that changed my perception about God, the world, and myself was when I decided to put God to the test. I told Him that from age 26 to 28, I want to get married. I was in a few relationships at that time. One almost led to marriage, but just a month before the wedding, I had to call it off.”
What looked like an answered prayer quickly unravelled into disappointment. Time was running out.
“At 26 years, I wasn’t married. At 27, still not married. I started wondering if God would ever answer my prayer because I was nearing the deadline I had set, 28 years.”
And while she waited, the notifications didn’t stop.
“During that period, you’ll keep seeing messages about people getting married. Then, in your school WhatsApp group, someone announces they’re getting married, and everyone is contributing. You can’t help but ask, When will it be my turn?”
But don’t get all sentimental now. In her waiting era, God was brewing something new for her. Behind the scenes, God was working. He was filling ‘water in the jars’, and turning them into a new, tasteful wine.
“At 28, someone came into my life. I celebrated my 28th birthday, and right after that, we started our journey. We got married on the 5th of November 2022, just before I turned 29. I serve a living God. He’s such a wonderful God.”
The Next Test: Childbirth by 30

One request answered. But she wasn’t done yet. Comfort had made another bold request. You know the journey to motherhood isn’t easy for some mothers. Comfort had to endure the pressure of being a ‘childless married woman.’
“I told God that between the ages of 28 to 30, I want to give birth. First, I was married. And you know how society is—once you’re married, the next thing is to give birth. If you have one, it’s not enough. Two? It’s still a problem. Six? They’ll ask if you can take care of them.”
She felt the pressure more than most.
“In the first year after marriage, no baby. I was so uneasy. All eyes were on me. People said, ‘Oh, this lecturer who has money but no child.’ So I reminded God: At age 28 to 30, I want to see my first child. And guess what? I got pregnant at 30. I celebrated my birthday that year—and at 31, God gave me a son.”
Yet Another Test: A Full-Time Job
Still not done.
“I told God that by 30, I want a full-time job, not just part-time. But now I’m married with a newborn I’m breastfeeding at home. I need to take care of the baby, but who’s going to employ me? Yet God being so good, I gave birth in May. By September, I was called and told there was a vacancy. I applied, got called for an interview, and within two weeks, I was employed.”
What She Believes Now
What does Comfort believe now?
“Society will look at you and expect you to live a certain way. If you don’t meet that standard, you’re seen as a disappointment. But I’ve come to believe that God has placed power in me. My words are powerful. When I pray and say, ‘God, this is what I need,’ He will do it for me. I’ve learned to shut out society. It’s between me and my God.”
That doesn’t mean the road was easy.
“Along the way, I was discouraged. I got distracted and confused. I asked myself, Is God really going to do it? I lost weight. I couldn’t even pray like I used to. But still, I called on David’s God to have mercy on me.”
Comfort’s Words of Encouragement
“To any woman going through something similar, I’ll say: Be patient. Calm down. Relax. Sometimes, you need to tune out the world, lie on your bed, and rest. Then, gather strength to face the world again. But don’t stop praying, even if it’s two words: Jesus, thank you. That’s enough. Trust God’s process. The story of the birth of an elephant inspires me a lot. It takes a pregnant elephant twenty-two months to give birth; all the animals in the forest will give birth before her, but when the elephant’s time is due, she gives birth quickly and to the biggest calf. Learn something new while you wait. Upgrade yourself and leave the rest to Him.”
She smiles as she shares her favourite Bible verse, the one that’s kept her grounded through it all:
Micah 7:8 – “Rejoice not against me, Oh mine enemy; when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.”
Indeed, Comfort didn’t just wait. She wrestled in faith, prayed boldly, trusted deeply, and she saw the hand of God move.
She put God to the test. And He answered.
